Graduate students at the masters, doctorate, or professional level at UCLA or UC Riverside are eligible to be Graduate Student LEND Trainees. The UC-LEND Training program aims to provide graduate-level trainees with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to become future leaders in research, education, and clinical practice.

Training Requirements

The UC-LEND Training Program follows the UCLA Academic Calendar and runs from late September/early October through late May/early June. UC-LEND Graduate Student Trainees complete the UC-LEND Long-Term Training Program and fulfill the following training requirements:

  • Asynchronous Coursework: Trainees will be expected to complete the UC-LEND Long-Term Training Asynchronous Curriculum. This curriculum is comprised of videos, readings, and assignments and will be completed on a weekly basis prior to the Weekly Monday Discussions.
  • Weekly Discussion: This one-hour virtual weekly seminar on Mondays (via Zoom) from 12:00 - 1:00 PM (Pacific Time) is led by Dr. Kashia Rosenau and provides trainees the opportunity to discuss applications of the content from the UC-LEND Curriculum.
  • Capstone Project: Graduate students will collaborate with other LEND Trainees, staff, and faculty on a group Capstone Project. The Capstone will connect to their work with the LEND Program and will be presented at the annual Symposium in the Spring.
    • Research Seminar: Graduate students will receive capstone advising from faculty and meet weekly with their capstone groups on Mondays from 1:00 - 2:00 PM.
  • UC-LEND Clinic: UC-LEND Trainees are required to shadow in the UC-LEND Multidisciplinary Clinic at least once per academic quarter, for a total of 3 times per year. The UC-LEND Multidisciplinary Clinic is held most Wednesdays from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM via Zoom.
  • Mentorship: Trainees will receive ongoing mentorship as part of the program.
  • In-person events: In order to further provide our trainees with interdisciplinary networking opportunities, the UC-LEND program hosts occasional in-person, hybrid, or virtual cohort building and professional development events for trainees.

Stipends

By completing the above Training Program requirements, trainees may be eligible for a stipend. Stipends are contingent upon the renewal of the federally funded UC-LEND Training Program grant. If stipends are available, eligibility for the graduate student stipend includes acceptance into UC-LEND as a long-term trainee; status as a U.S. Citizen, non-citizen national, or other permanent resident of the United States; and current enrollment in a graduate program at UCLA or UCR.

Stipends for UCLA students are may impact UCLA student financial aid. It is the responsibility of the trainee to correspond with the UCLA Financial Aid Office prior to receiving their stipend to determine if stipend distribution will impact their financial aid in any way. Trainees are responsible for communicating with the UC-LEND Team prior to stipend distribution regarding stipend distribution plans or adjustment requests to accommodate financial aid limits.
