UC-LEND Social Work Internship
Graduate students completing their Masters in Social Work at UCLA are eligible for the UC-LEND Social Work Internship during the second year of their MSW.
As part of this program, UC-LEND Social Work Interns complete the UC-LEND Long-Term Training Program and complete 300+ hours of LEND Training related to neurodevelopmental conditions and clinical training. UC-LEND Training Program requirements are integrated with the 20 internship hours/week and Monday, Wednesday, Friday internship days as much as possible, however completion of asynchronous curriculum, assignments, and quarterly events may require time outside of internship hours.
The number of trainees accepted annually varies and is dependent on program capacity. For any questions related to the UC-LEND MSW Internship, please contact abowen@mednet.ucla.edu.
MSW Interns do not complete the UC-LEND Long-Term Trainee Application. If you are interested in the UC-LEND Social Work Internship, please follow the UCLA MSW Placement Process.
Training Overview
UC-LEND Social Work Interns fulfill the following training requirements:
- Asynchronous Coursework: Trainees will be expected to complete the UC-LEND Long-Term Training Asynchronous Curriculum. This curriculum is comprised of videos, readings, and assignments and will be completed on a weekly basis prior to the Weekly Monday Discussions.
- Weekly Discussion: This one-hour virtual weekly seminar on Mondays (via Zoom) from 12:00 - 1:00 PM (Pacific Time) is led by Dr. Kashia Rosenau and provides trainees the opportunity to discuss applications of the content from the UC-LEND Curriculum.
- Capstone Project: Social Work interns will collaborate with other LEND Trainees, staff, and faculty on a group Capstone Project. The Capstone will connect to their work with the LEND Program and will be presented at the annual Symposium in the Spring.
- UC-LEND Clinic: Social work trainees will obtain clinical experience under the supervision of the LEND Clinic Team. For more information, please contact abowen@mednet.ucla.edu.
- Mentorship: Trainees will receive ongoing mentorship as part of the program.
- In-person events: In order to further provide our trainees with interdisciplinary networking opportunities, the UC-LEND program hosts occasional in-person, hybrid, or virtual cohort building and professional development events for trainees.
Stipends
By completing the above Training Program requirements, trainees may be eligible for a stipend. Stipends are contingent upon the renewal of the federally funded UC-LEND Training Program grant. If stipends are available, eligibility for the graduate student stipend includes acceptance into UC-LEND as a long-term trainee; status as a U.S. Citizen, non-citizen national, or other permanent resident of the United States; and current enrollment in a graduate program at UCLA or UCR.
Stipends for UCLA students are may impact UCLA student financial aid. It is the responsibility of the trainee to correspond with the UCLA Financial Aid Office prior to receiving their stipend to determine if stipend distribution will impact their financial aid in any way. Trainees are responsible for communicating with the UC-LEND Team prior to stipend distribution regarding stipend distribution plans or adjustment requests to accommodate financial aid limits.
