Dr. Blackwell completed his doctoral degree in counseling psychology at Boston University in Boston Massachusetts. He completed his predoctoral training at the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), which included rotations in consultation liaison, outpatient therapy, integrated primary care, mental health inpatient unit for eating disorders and the emergency department. Before coming back to California, Dr. Blackwell spent two years at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) providing outpatient therapy which focused primarily on supporting undocumented Latinx/é immigrants and one year at the Baker Center for Children and Families, a therapeutic day school in Boston. Dr. Blackwell’s passion is providing mental health treatment both in English and Spanish and continuing to explore how we can better create access to mental health services for underserved communities. In his downtime he enjoys traveling as much as possible, watching his favorite L.A. sports teams (Lakers and Dodgers) and spending time with his two dogs (Ellie, Winnie) and two one-eyed cats (Popeye, Olive). Dr. Blackwell will complete his residency training here at UCLA. Throughout the year, Dr. Blackwell will provide care to patients within UC-LEND and the Gender Health Program, and at partner sites, Venice Family Clinic and allcove Beach Cities.
