Alex Bowen, ACSW
Clinical Social Work Manager
About
As the Clinical Social Work Manager, Alex provides social work services to LEND Clinic patients and plays a role in enhancing the quality, development, and delivery of those services. She supports patients and families through educational advocacy and clinical care coordination. She also precepts for UCLA MSW students interning with the LEND Clinic in their final year of training. Her priority is collaborating with patients and families to navigate complex systems and access the support they need, want, and deserve.
Having grown up requiring specialized health care due to a disability, Alex understands that being treated with kindness, dignity, and genuine care can make all the difference. This role continually reinforces her belief that treating patients as the experts in their own lives is one of the most powerful approaches any care provider can take.
Alex is passionate about improving the quality of care for clients who have been underserved by healthcare systems. Some of her interests include integrating anti-oppression principles, art, and music into her work.
Alex earned her MSW from UCLA with a concentration in Social and Economic Justice and her BA in Psychology from UC Santa Cruz. She co-authored the publication “‘They think kids are stupid’: yPAR and confrontations with institutionalized power as contexts for children’s identity work.
